For the past 3 weeks, Too Hype Teen Night has been going through a series on anger. This began after asking our teens for topics they’d like to discuss, and finding that a common struggle listed was dealing with anger. A key verse for discussions has been:
“In your anger do not sin: Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry, and do not give the devil a foothold.”
(Ephesians 4:26-27, NIV)
We are all faced with situations in our daily lives that can bring up this emotion of anger inside us, no matter our age. These emotions tend to come from our lack of control in this world. How much control do we have as teenagers? At school? At home? Very little. Add in the stress and anxiety of living in poverty. No wonder this is a hot topic! But we have a Savior that will shine through the darkness in these moments of anger because He conquers all (Romans 8:31-39). We learn what we can control and give all up to the Prince of Peace. Last week we ended the series with art therapy stations that encouraged our teens to take their anger and turn it into something positive, to slow down and take the time to process and pray. We weren’t sure how this would go over, but it turned out to be a sweet time of redemption for many. A couple teens even asked for some take-home play-dough (part of one of the stations)!
