Backyard Bible Club continues in its mission to provide high quality after-school care to children and their families regardless (and in defiance) of their circumstances.

This past week we continued learning about the stories of Jesus. We read a story about Jesus’ miracles, and another about how Jesus taught his followers to pray. We read lots of children’s stories, did lots of artwork, and one of our Mission Year volunteers, Ms. Amanda Reynolds, organized a science experiment for us that illustrated a lesson about relying on God’s strength. Children continue to attend and participate and demonstrate enthusiasm about the program. We continue to emphasize the values of respect, obedience, and peaceful conflict resolution, and we continue to reward children who reflect those values.

This past weekend we had our first trip to the movie theatre. Two children earned a trip there to see a movie, and we had a great time and enjoyed the experience so much. We told those children how proud of them we are and how we recognize their efforts and see improvements in their character.

We’re about to begin a string of sessions related to Black History for February, Black History Month. We’ll also have another experiment in a couple of weeks. We continue to look forward to each and every moment we get to spend with the children we love and believe in.
