Many children in our neighborhood wander unsupervised after school. The goal of Backyard Bible Club is to provide a safe, nurturing environment for the children of our neighborhood to enter after school in which they can encounter Jesus’ love, engage in enrichment activities, and practice respect, obedience, and peaceful conflict resolution.
Week in and week out we endeavor to give children glimpses of Jesus during program sessions through constant kindness, interest, and encouragement.
This past week we experienced another great week of sessions. The weather relented enough for us to play outside again! The kids enjoyed getting active during our supervised games, and our staff and volunteers enjoyed playing as well! We continue to read poems and stories related to black history month and the children who’ve heard them have expressed interest in the subject matter. Thursday, Ms. Amanda led the children in another session of the science club she’s initiated as part of the program. The children learned about how candles give off light unless we cover them up and they fade out from lack of oxygen. We learned that we must let the light of Jesus shine brightly in us!
Every day we have time to check in with each other to see how everybody’s doing. Several of the children stated that their favorite part of that day was coming to Backyard Bible Club and being with the leaders. We told them that we were glad they were there. We were.
