Have you ever been on a retreat where you sensed that God really did show up and it surprised you? Well, He did that to me this weekend. Confession of sin, authentic worship, Biblical teaching, joyful fellowship, and wholesome fun were all part of a successful trip to Carolina Creek Christian Camp near Huntsville, TX. Spiritual transformation is not linear; predicting a growth spurt is impossible. However, 15 young adults members of Agape and the 6 leaders undoubtedly grew in the relationship with Jesus.
Many Christians never get honest about their doubts, fears, habitual sins, and struggles. We created an environment for men and women to be vulnerable about their lives, and God showed up to move them toward honesty. It takes courage to admit to yourself that your life is a mess, and even more courage to share that with others and ask for help.
We talked about generations of the same sinful patterns and recognizing temptation in time to flee. We read the story of the Lost Son who chose to leave the “slop” in favor of the Father’s house. David Hill taught about the Heavenly Father filling the void left by earthly fathers. Everyone has broken places, and we’ve all spent time in the “far country.” This retreat was a taste of the family of God, and many lost sons and daughters returned home.
Keep praying for courage to face reality and turn from our sins. Pray for the small discipleship groups starting from the retreat. And pray for the transformation of these wonderful young men and women.
