The 2009 “Growing Up in Houston” report, from the organization Children at Risk, explains that at some Houston-area schools, more than three of every four incoming high school freshmen drops out before their projected graduation date. That was the case with Joshua Edomobi 21 and David Pratt 18 both high school
dropouts due in large part to a lot of instability during their high school years. Joshua and David both moved into the gateway house in April 2010 realizing they needed to begin the process of becoming independent adults with goal number one being to obtain their high school diplomas. On June 12 2010 after many hours of dedication and hard work they were able to walk across the stage in front of friends and family and receive their high school diplomas. For many of us receiving a high school diploma is something we expect and assume will happen but, for these two young men receiving their diplomas was a huge step of confidence as they prepare for their next step in becoming independent adult.
