Every year, hundreds of thousands of students in the U.S. and around the world unite to do World Vision’s 30 Hour Famine. They learn about the global hunger crisis, raise funds to help the hungry around the world, and then go hungry themselves for 30 Hours. On March 16-17, the teens of Agape’s Too Hype Teen Night participated in the 30 Hour Famine for the first time.  It was a meaningful time for our teens to learn how they can serve others.

Prior to the event, the teens made kolaches for sale to raise funds to send to World Vision.  Their goal was to raise $360, enough to feed and care for a child for an entire year.  After selling over 10 dozen kolaches to neighboring churches and individuals, they had raised $177, which was matched by an anonymous donor to reach their goal of $360.  What an exciting opportunity for our teens to see the community of God come together!

The 30 hour fast was no easy task for our teens, but we’re proud to say that our group of 12 teenagers made it through the entire 30 hours without running across the street to the corner store (this is a small miracle)!  They were divided up into 4 teams that represented 4 countries World Vision is currently working in to alleviate hunger: Ghana, Kenya, Ethiopia, and Mali.  Each teen wore an identity of a child that World Vision assists in their country, praying for them as we fasted.  Here are some quotes from our teens during the fast:

“I’m super hungry!  But it’s okay.  Helping people is awesome!”

“I love this!  We’re doing this for the hungry.”

“He is always with you.”

“God please help the children in Ghana, that they will believe in you.  So I ask help them please.”

“I pray that the kids in Kenya, Ethiopia, Ghana, and Mali get better water, clothing, and food. Amen.”

“It’s challenging, but it helps you to understand what they’re going through!”

“It’s hard.  Now I know how the people who don’t eat feel.  I really hope this helps them.”

Amen.
