This entire school year, 55 individual children came and participated in supervised afterschool activities with Agape Development Ministries. Those children came so frequently that their turnout adds up to over 800 attendees who came to the Agape offices after school to spend time with Agape staff and volunteers. But, the interest in young lives given and the memories of time well spent are forever more important than the numbers.
We remember seeing children come and engage in playing dodge ball as friends, and we remember sitting them down for a time-out if they were playing angrily instead of enjoyably. We remember seeing some of them get together to play dodge ball just for fun when BBC wasn’t in session.
We remember suspending some children for acting out in defiance of the staff’s authority, and we remember those same children eventually coming back again for the remainder of the year to refrain from making those poor choices again.
We remember how fascinated we were by Dr. Borshkovitzki’s mystifying science experiments, and we are so grateful to her for traveling such a long way to share with us.
We remember reading all the way through our story book Bibles, and we remember Barbara Chrisman coming and donating Bibles for all the children.
We remember when we decorated those cookies and shared all those art supplies at our Christmas party, and we remember wrapping up presents for our parents.
We remember Easter parfaits.
We remember Mother’s Day cards.
We remember Black History Month stories.
We remember that one day that it was so cold and only those three kids came at first, and we had such a great time playing Uno.
We remember those days we were at capacity with all those kids, and we still gave as much as we could to make sure they felt safe and loved!
We remember all those boxes of snacks you sent to us.
We remember all the swinging, sliding, drawing, jumping ropes, and reading stories!
We remember going on all those fun outings with the children who earned them by keeping the simple rules.
We remember that Christian rap concert we went to one day.
And we remember sitting outside in the grass eating pizza and cookies our friend Mrs. Kathy Clowers baked for us as we applauded all the volunteers who helped make it all happen.
