Winter Boys’ Basketball
Agape just recently completed a boys’ basketball season and celebrated well with its culminating banquet. This celebration was all the much sweeter as this group of thirteen 10-11 year old boys were a part of Agape’s most exciting sports season yet. This was evidenced by the boys’ enthusiasm and growth (on and off the court), overall neighborhood support and quality of volunteer involvement.
The season was highlighted by two wins-both of which came in dramatic fashion as Tyrelle Boxie and Max Coleman each made game winning shots to earn “the Spurs” victory. This group’s defensive’s efforts made it difficult for opposing teams in every area of the court. And although undersized the Spurs toughness more than made up for being smaller than most of the teams they played. In the midst of one of the team’s defensive flurries one boy on the bench looked at a coach with excitement and said, “I’m so glad you’re our coach! I love basketball!”
It was indeed a collaborative effort that made this season so special. Agape would like to thank the many volunteers and fans that gave of their time and resources to love these boys and make this season so special. In particular thanks to assistant coaches Greg Lee, Rocky Nelson, Jermaine Philps and Daniel Stein!
