Tutors/Mentors – Weekly – Backyard Bible Club – Ages K – 5th Grade – Become a Child’s Path to Success – A part BBC time is set aside to help the K-5th graders complete their homework and improve their reading skills.
Volunteer once a week from 3:00pm- 4:00pm to help a child with homework.
Volunteer once a week from 5:00pm-6:00pm and help make a difference in a child’s future!
Driver/Chaperone (can also be a group opp.) – Backyard Bible Club – Ages K – 5th Grade – Help our BBC kids apply what they’ve learned to the real world! Trips will be taken to local businesses that relate to the different “seasons” of BBC. Drivers and chaperones are needed to ensure all the kids are able to participate.

Junior Master Gardener (www.jmgkids.us) – Garden Season (Sept. 3-Oct. 24) – Backyard Bible Club – Thursdays 4:00pm-5:00pm – Ages K – 5th Grade – JMG program mission is “to grow good kids by igniting a passion for learning, success and service through a unique gardening education”. Using provided curriculum, guide the BBC kids through garden learning activities.
Direct Christmas play practice – Christmas Season (Oct. 28-Dec. 19) – Backyard Bible Club – Ages K – 5th Grade which will lead to a performance on either Saturday, December 14 or Sunday, December 15.
Lemonade Day Season (March 24 – May 4) – Backyard Bible Club – Ages K – 5th Grade –Teach LD curriculum – Teach kids the importance of being a self-starter! Lemonade Day is a strategic 14-step process that walks youth from a dream to a business plan, while teaching them the same principles required to start any big company. Inspiring kids to work hard and make a profit, they are also taught to spend some, save some and share some by giving back to their community.
Men’s Retreat – Adult – Biloxi, Mississippi October 18-20, 2013 – Once a year we take young men from the neighborhood and/or who have been involved with Gateway away for a weekend of spiritual growth. Adult male volunteers are needed to help drive to Biloxi, Mississippi and then to help facilitate the activities that will help enable these young men become spiritual leaders.

HIS League Basketball – November 2013 – March 2014 – Boys – 3rd – 6th grade – HIS League is collaboration between Generation Once, The Forge for Families, Cornerstone and Agape to bring basketball to the youth of Houston’s underserved areas.
Too Hype Teen Night Assistants – Boys and Girls – Middle School and High School – Thursday evenings – Attend Too Hype Teen night at least twice a month and participate in discussion time; develop relationships with the teens in the program
Too Hype Teen Night Mentors – Boys and Girls – Middle School and High School – Thursday evenings – after attending THTN several times, begin to develop a more one-on-one relationship with one of the teens. Check in on them throughout the week.
Getting Ahead Childcare (can also be a group opp.) – Adult Programs – Ages Vary – Be a part of adults being able to make a change in his or her life by providing childcare during the program.

Fun Run Chaperones – Health & Fitness Season (Jan. 6-Mar. 13) – Backyard Bible Club – Ages K – 5th Grade – We have signed up for 2014 Texas Children’s Hospital Family Fun Run on Saturday, March 29th! Chaperones are needed to help transport the kids to the run location and to run/walk along with the kids during the race.
Chaperone Christmas caroling event – Christmas Season (Oct. 28-Dec. 19) – Backyard Bible Club – Ages K – 5th Grade – Join us as we take the kids caroling and spread the joy of the season. Date TBD.
Cooking class leaders –Health & Fitness Season (Jan. 6-Mar. 13) – Backyard Bible Club – Ages K – 5th Grade – Do you have a simple, healthy recipe that you can share with our K-5th graders? Come out on a Thursday from 4:00pm-5:00pm and help our kids develop healthy eating habits.
Hygiene talk – Health & Fitness Season (Jan. 6-Mar. 13) – Backyard Bible Club – Ages K – 5th Grade Learning self-care at an early age is very important and can directly affect learning ability and social interactions. Teach the kids the importance of bathing, brushing teeth, washing hands, etc.
Rise Up Summer Adventure Short course leaders – Ages K – 5th Grade – What are you good at? What do you enjoy doing? Painting, woodworking, ballet, music, football, computers, building towers, step, basketball, song writing…the possibilities are endless! Give three hours one week during the summer to share your interest with a child.
Monthly Zumba/Group exercise leader – Serenity – Girls – Middle and High School – Saturday – Once a month come share your passion for exercise with teen girls. Serenity meets early Saturday afternoons.
Photographer – Sports – Boys and Girls – 3rd – 6th grade – There are many events throughout the year that Agape would love to have documented: sport games, community events, summer program, BBC activities, etc. Let us know you’re availability or program preference and we’ll contact you when there is a photo opportunity.
Superfan – Sports – Saturday as available – Sign up to receive our game schedules and come root for our teams! Many of our kids’ families are unable to attend the games so come be their cheerleader. Make it extra special by providing a snack and drink to the hardworking team!
Install Server/Network – One time Opp – We have a server for our network that needs to be set-up. This will enable us to be able to share things easier.
Property Research – Ongoing – Help us keep track of property sales and rentals in our target area.
Data Entry – Ongoing – Weekly – Help enter our program participants into the data tracking software. This enables us to keep accurate counts on attendance and participation.
Slide show – Various Programs – Independent – A photo slide show of activities is a part of the spaghetti dinner. Help us by assembling the collected photos into a presentation with music. (Can be done from home.)
Deal Finder – Various Programs – Independent – This can be done at home! We need someone to help us locate deals for our monthly teen outings via Groupon and other discount sources.
Costco/Sam’s Shopper – Various Programs – Independent – Provide Agape staff with more time to spend working directly on their programs by making runs to either Costco or Sam’s to pick up snacks and drinks to be used in various programs. This needs to be done about twice a month.

Field Trip Chaperones – Too Hype Teen Night – Middle or High School – Monthly on Saturday – Once a month Agape’s teens go on a group outing, this may include (but not limited to) bowling, beach, laser tag, and roller-skating. With the exception of December 2013 and April 2014, field trips will be the third Saturday of the month. Volunteers are needed to help drive the teens to the destination and help chaperone once there.
Parent’s Night Out Child Care – Friday evenings – Come to Agape and hang out with the children while their parents enjoy an evening out with a staff member. Volunteer group can also provide dinner for the kids if they desire. 6:00pm-9:00pm.

Gateway Clean up – Young Adults – Saturday – Bring your gloves and manpower and help our Gateway residents do a deep clean on the homes.

Football Banquet – November 9, 2013 – Sports – Boys – 3rd – 6th grade – At the end of each sport season we like to celebrate with the team and their parents. Bring your group to help decorate, serve, and then to visit with the families during this time.
Christmas Celebration – December 16th – 19th – Backyard Bible Club – Ages K – 5th Grade – We love to give a party the week before the Christmas break! We are looking for volunteer groups to choose one day of this week and plan Christmas activities for the kids. Past activities have included: gingerbread houses, fake snow, ornament making, card making and cookie decorating. Wednesday will also be present wrapping day.
Basketball Banquet – March, 2014 – Sports – Boys – 3rd – 6th grade – At the end of each sport season we like to celebrate with the team and their parents. Bring your group to help decorate, serve, and then to visit with the families during this time.
Lemonade Day- May 4, 2014 – Backyard Bible Club – Ages K – 5th Grade – Sponsor churches/Drivers – Let your church be a location for one of our lemonade stands. Lemonade Day season ends with the kids putting what they have learned into practice. Members will come to Agape on Sunday morning, help load kids and supplies, then assist the BBC staff with the kids while they sell lemonade after church service.
Rise Up Summer Adventure – Monday thru Thursday 1:00pm – 5:00pm – K-5th grade – Sign your small group/youth group (high school and/or college) up to serve on week with RUSA. Volunteer groups will be responsible for planning games and crafts, participating in worship time, and to help direct the behavior of the kids.
Community Events – All ages – Volunteer groups are an integral part of making community events a success. Volunteer groups help with set-up and clean up, serve food, and manage the games. These are a great way for volunteers to experience the work of Agape and directly interact with the people we serve.
Dinners – Various programs – Several of our programs provide meals for the participants. Small groups are invited to provide a meal to our participants. Email for programs and dates.
Computer Curtain – Time flexible – Since the front room is used for so many purposes it would be beneficial to be able to close off the computer area at times. There is currently a PVC pipe hanging above the computer area. We need a curtain made Email email@example.com
Handyman Days – As Needed – We keep a running list of repairs and “to-do” tasks. Check for availability.
Community Garden – Occasionally we need groups to help clean up around the community garden. Check for availability.
